I have a little 4 year old Maltese and Shih Tzu mix. She has very tiny teeth that are already starting to show signs of dental disease. I know it's important that they get brushed because small breed dogs are more prone to dental and gum problems. It is soft and round and she completely tolerates it. I put a little doggie toothpaste on it, which she likes the taste of, and I'm finally able to at least move the brush and paste around her gum line.
